Most professionals are required to use their voices for many hours a day and are later fatigued or hoarse. Prolonged use of the speaking or singing voice daily can cause damage to the vocal folds and, in turn, loss of professional income. Dr. Kimberly Vinson (ENT) and Jenny Muckala CCC-SLP (Speech pathologist) will speak about injury prevention and how to maintain a free and healthy voice. Whether you will be an educator, singer, radio announcer, lawyer or any other voice professional, this convocation is for you! Professional voice users are vocal athletes and proper training will provide longevity of career and freedom of expression. Vocal problems historically have meant the end of a career, but this can be avoided with 21st century medical intervention and long-term support. Belmont University School of Music is committed to supporting education, awareness, and an interdisciplinary team approach to voice care.
The CMPA School of Music in partnership with the Vanderbilt Voice Center presents to our students this Music and Discourse lecture about vocal heath for the professional voice user.
