Students will use the Hawaiian Island of Oahu as a laboratory to examine cultural pluralism and economic geography of Hawaii. The coexistence of globalization and pluralism in Honolulu, Hawaii provides insight into being global citizens without giving up cultural identity in a more economically interdependent world. This study away program in Honolulu will offer opportunities for student learning that are not available at our mainland campus and will create a uniquely original approach to this LCC experience. Students may also choose to enroll in Third Year Writing, Religion Junior Cornerstone, or International Business.
- Students will be issued IDs from the University of Hawaii (UH), Manoa, College of Pacific and Asian Studies and have classroom, library, computer lab and WiFi network access privileges.
- The Program Fee for the Maymester LCC covers:
- Room and Board on the campus of UH (3 meals M-F, 2 meals Sat/Sun)
- Roundtrip Airfare Nashville to Honolulu.
o Travel to class-related field excursions. A partial list of sites includes: Polynesian Culture Center, Honolulu Chinatown, Pearl Harbor (w/overnight on USS Missouri Battleship, Iolani Palace and Missionary Houses; Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve; Atlantis Submarine Tour, Hawaii Port Authority
- Visiting lecturers from the UH School of Pacific and Asian Studies, College of Social Sciences, Shidler College of Business, the Center for International Business Education and Research, and the Pacific Asian Management Initiative.
- 8 Convocation Credits in Cultural Arts
- 6 hours of Global Studies Credit
- 6 hours of Experiential Learning Credit
LCC Tuition for Maymester (6 hours) $2,080
Program Fee $4,799
Total Maymester Costs $6,879
(Tuition for 6 hours in Regular Term is $5,970. Comparative cost of Maymester trip is plus $639. If enrolled in 9 hours there will be a savings of $1,242)
