Middle Row: Candice Beam, Mary Alice Hobson, Alex Ernst, Kandice Squires; Back row: Meredith Erivin, Dr. Eric Hobson, Garrett Hobson, Will Hobson, Scott Hobson, Kyla Cunico<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Students and faculty from Belmont University\u2019s College of Pharmacy recently completed a year-long project to create an inventory system at the Moore Pediatric Surgery Center in Guatemala City, Guatemala.\u00a0 The project started last July and included four separate mission trips from the College with a total of 23 students and faculty contributing.\u00a0 The most recent team finished the expansive project to catalog the contents of the surgery center which includes three operating rooms and 21 beds.\u00a0 The inventory system was built from scratch, tested, launched and, during this last visit, turned over to the surgery center\u2019s local management.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3130\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3130\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3130\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014b-300x239.jpg\" alt=\"Kristen Conrad (CO2017) creating inventory bar codes at Moore Pediatric Surgery Center.\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014b-300x239.jpg 300w, https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014b.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kristen Conrad (CO2017) creating inventory bar codes at Moore Pediatric Surgery Center.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The team was led by Dr. Eric Hobson, professor of Pharmacy, who was joined on this most recent trip by his family, including his son, Garrett, who will enter Belmont as a freshman this fall.\u00a0 Dr. Hobson has directed all four of the teams that have contributed to this project.\u00a0 The students on the most recent team included Candice Beam, Kyla Cunico, Alex Ernst, Meredith Ervin, Chelsey Manire and Kandice Squires, all third-year PharmD students, and Kristen Conrad, a second-year student.\u00a0 \u201cI had to go back to Guatemala,\u201d said Squires, who has also been part of previous project teams.\u00a0 \u201cI claimed `dibs\u2019 on bringing order to the hospital\u2019s third-floor \u2018black hole\u2019 storage room.\u00a0 And, we did it!\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3132\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3132\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3132\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014c-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"Kandice Squires (CO2016) and Will Hobson moving medical supplies.\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014c-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/GuatJune2014c.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3132\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kandice Squires (CO2016) and Will Hobson moving medical supplies.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Allison Bender, Executive Director of The Shalom Foundation, the Franklin, Tennessee not-for-profit that built the Moore Pediatric Surgery Center, called the Belmont teams\u2019 service to the organization, \u201ca true blessing.\u201d\u00a0 She added, \u201cNow, the Moore Center staff can be more efficient, and be better stewards of donated resources. Most important, the inventory system that our Belmont friends have built helps us provide the hundreds of Guatemalan children entrusted to our medical care each year an even safer, better experience.
