{"id":2902,"date":"2014-05-16T12:31:41","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T18:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/?p=2902"},"modified":"2014-05-23T07:06:30","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T13:06:30","slug":"pharmacy-student-receives-us-public-health-service-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/2014\/05\/16\/pharmacy-student-receives-us-public-health-service-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacy student receives US Public Health Service Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2903\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/JohnsonAward.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2903\" class=\"wp-image-2903 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/JohnsonAward.jpg\" alt=\"JohnsonAward\" width=\"200\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary-Martin Johnson is recognized by Dr. Philip Johnston, Dean of the College of Pharmacy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Fourth-year pharmacy student, Mary-Martin Johnson, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, recently received the United States Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Practice Award.\u00a0 Johnson was presented the aware by Dr. Chris Lamer, a clinical informaticist with the Indian Health Services. \u00a0 The U.S. Public Health Service created the program to encourage student pharmacists to become active in public health issues.\u00a0 The annual award recognizes student pharmacists who have demonstrated a commitment to public health and public health practice across America.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson was recognized for her work in the American Pharmaceutical Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter within Belmont\u2019s College of Pharmacy.\u00a0 She has served as operation heart chairwoman and patient care coordinator for the organization. Through her efforts sustainable contributions to organizations such as the Barren Plains Hispanic Ministry have been initiated in the last few years. The APhA-ASP chapter has provided migrant workers free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings as well as patient education regarding diabetes and hypertension. In addition, the APhA-ASP chapter provided influenza immunizations to the migrant workers.
