{"id":284,"date":"2010-09-27T13:10:50","date_gmt":"2010-09-27T19:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.195.103.127\/health\/2010\/09\/27\/schools-of-ot-and-pt-to-host-amtryke-road-show\/"},"modified":"2012-12-26T13:05:01","modified_gmt":"2012-12-26T19:05:01","slug":"schools-of-ot-and-pt-to-host-amtryke-road-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/2010\/09\/27\/schools-of-ot-and-pt-to-host-amtryke-road-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Schools of OT and PT to host Amtryke Road Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Occupational Therapy and the School of Physical Therapy will jointly be hosting a workshop in early October focusing on the benefits of the Amtryke Therapeutic Tricycle Program\u2014a unique mobility service that uses custom-built tricycles to assist people with disabilities.<br \/>\nThe event, scheduled for the 6th, will be held in the McWhorter Building room 205 from 5-6 pm, as an encouragement for local therapists to bring the benefits of Amtryke to children with disabilities.  Sue Haywood, a physical therapist from National AMBUCS\u2014the non-profit service that owns and operates Amtryke\u2014will be present to conduct in-service training sessions for therapists.<br \/>\nOver 15,300 AmTryke vehicles have been distributed around the world to date. The majority of these \u201ctrykes\u201d are purchased by volunteers and donated free of charge to financially-needy children. The trykes themselves can be operated using hands and\/or feet, and are designed to accommodate riders of all ages, sizes, and varying degrees of physical limitations.
