{"id":2719,"date":"2013-12-10T10:44:57","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T16:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/?p=2719"},"modified":"2014-02-10T08:42:38","modified_gmt":"2014-02-10T14:42:38","slug":"nursing-faculty-help-health-sciences-academy-with-hca-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/2013\/12\/10\/nursing-faculty-help-health-sciences-academy-with-hca-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing faculty help Health Sciences Academy with HCA Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/MurabitoSmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2720 alignleft\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px 0px;\" alt=\"MurabitoSmall\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/MurabitoSmall.jpg\" width=\"81\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/RosedaleSmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2721 alignleft\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"RosedaleSmall\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/RosedaleSmall.jpg\" width=\"81\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a>Two faculty members from Belmont University School of Nursing recently assisted Hillwood High School\u2019s Academy of Health Sciences in securing a $100,000 grant from the HCA Foundation made on behalf of the HCA\/TriStar Family of Hospitals.\u00a0\u00a0 The School of Nursing is a PENCIL partner with the Academy.\u00a0 Belmont faculty and students volunteer time to provide guidance to the school\u2019s administration and career advice to its students.\u00a0 The PENCIL Foundation helps link community resources with Metro Nashville Public Schools.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sandy Murabito, Assistant Professor of Nursing, and Sandra Rosedale, Clinical Placement Coordinator for the School of Nursing, provided significant assistance in writing the grant application.\u00a0\u00a0 Murabito is the school\u2019s PTO president and Rosedale serves on the Academy\u2019s advisory board.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The grant will be used to fund the design and construction of two state-of-the-art patient simulation laboratories at the Academy, giving students the opportunity to simulate and practice a variety of real-world medical procedures and activities such as drawing blood, starting an IV, processing patients, and labor and delivery support.\u00a0 Skill-based learning activities help to prepare students for future careers in medical and surgical nursing, emergency medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation and sports medicine and many more health related professions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/hallmarksmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-422\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px 10px;\" alt=\"hallmarksmall\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/hallmarksmall.jpg\" width=\"81\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a>Dr. Beth Hallmark, Director of Patient Simulation for Belmont\u2019s Gordon E.
