{"id":2706,"date":"2013-11-25T09:51:55","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T15:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/?p=2706"},"modified":"2013-12-10T10:47:27","modified_gmt":"2013-12-10T16:47:27","slug":"belmont-lipscomb-pharmacy-students-warn-of-dangers-of-prescription-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/2013\/11\/25\/belmont-lipscomb-pharmacy-students-warn-of-dangers-of-prescription-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Belmont, Lipscomb Pharmacy Students Warn of Dangers of Prescription Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Belmont and Lipscomb pharmacy students recently visited Hume Fogg High School to educate students on drug abuse through the Generation Rx program, which educates youth to the epidemic of prescription drug abuse and addiction occurring in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Both universities\u2019 American Pharmacists Association (APhA) chapters presented on the important issue. The event featured a video highlighting the use of prescription drugs by teenagers and responses by their families as well as recent statistics and addictive trends that are occurring among high school students.\u00a0 Students also participated in a game show competition emphasizing key topics presented.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cThe event was a tremendous success. The students at Hume Fogg were very engaged, and it was fun to see the two colleges come together and work so well on such an important issue,\u201d College of Pharmacy Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Kelley Kiningham said. \u201cOur goal is to have this outreach effort grow across Nashville and surrounding counties.\u00a0 Raising awareness to this presentation provided by our APhA students will hopefully bring other middle\/high schools to the table to allow us to promote awareness and education related to prescription drug abuse among those populations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HumeFogg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2708\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 0px;\" alt=\"HumeFogg\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HumeFogg.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HumeFogg.jpg 500w, https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/HumeFogg-300x122.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Belmont and Lipscomb pharmacy students recently visited Hume Fogg High School to educate students on drug abuse through the Generation Rx program, which educates youth to the epidemic of prescription drug abuse and addiction occurring in the United States.
