{"id":1794,"date":"2012-12-26T14:58:20","date_gmt":"2012-12-26T20:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/?p=1794"},"modified":"2013-04-09T10:09:43","modified_gmt":"2013-04-09T16:09:43","slug":"dr-wollaber-honored-as-middle-tennessee-nurse-of-the-year-for-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/2012\/12\/26\/dr-wollaber-honored-as-middle-tennessee-nurse-of-the-year-for-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing Professor honored as Middle Tennessee Nurse of the Year for Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Wollaber-Small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1795\" style=\"border: 1px solid black; margin: 5px 10px;\" title=\"Wollaber Small\" src=\"http:\/\/forum.belmont.edu\/health\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Wollaber-Small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a>Dr. Debra Wollaber, Professor of Nursing at Belmont, is one of 16 Middle Tennessee nurses honored recently as 2012 Nurse of the Year by the March of Dimes regional chapter.\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Wollaber received the award for education to entry level nurses.\u00a0 Each year, the March of Dimes recognizes outstanding nurses in a number of areas within clinical nursing, administrative nursing, research nursing and nursing education.\u00a0 Nurse educators are nominated for their efforts towards the education of future nursing professionals either at the entry level or at the graduate level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so happy for Debra to be recognized in this way,\u201d said Dr. Martha Buckner, Associate Dean of Nursing in the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences &amp; Nursing.\u00a0 \u201cMany of us at Belmont have been impacted by her leadership and mentorship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Dr. Wollaber earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, master&#8217;s in parent-child nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and a Ph.D. in child and family studies from Syracuse University.\u00a0 She began teaching at Belmont in 1988 and served as dean of the School of Nursing beginning in 1997 and then the College of Health Sciences and Nursing from 1999-2007. She returned to the classroom in 2007 after helping coordinate the construction of the Gordon E.
