DEBATE08 LOGISTICS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS – September 11, 2008
Media Canteen Sponsor
The Belmont community is making extraordinary efforts in our role as host of the 2008 Town Hall Presidential Debate. We believe hosting the debate provides an unparalleled historic opportunity for the university to make an important contribution to our democratic process.
With this opportunity have come many serious and thoughtful deliberations to the schedules, routines and policies that Belmont has practiced. Our campus community has risen to the occasion, moving schedules to accommodate a change in Fall Break, facing challenging restrictions on parking and working many long hours to create this incomparable opportunity for our students and community—one that will be remembered for years and years to come.
Belmont’s lead sponsors for the Debate include HCA, the Massey Foundation, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and the State of Tennessee. The Commission on Presidential Debates offers a Media Canteen sponsored by Anheuser-Busch to provide meals and refreshment for credentialed journalists on the day of the Debate. It will be placed in the tennis courts along 15th Avenue, adjacent to the Media Filing Center. Only credentialed journalists will have access to the Media Canteen.
Rock the Vote with Melinda Doolittle This Saturday
Rock the Vote’s ‘Road Trip ‘08’ will hold its kick-off concert this Saturday, Sept. 13, from 2-4 p.m. on Belmont’s South Lawn (the grassy area between the Curb Event Center and the soccer field). In addition to voter registration and education, the event will feature performances by Belmont alumna and “American Idol” finalist Melinda Doolittle and two local bands.
Keep an Eye Out for Viewing Party Information
In the next couple of weeks, Belmont students, faculty and staff will be given an opportunity to attend Belmont’s official 2008 Town Hall Presidential Debate viewing party, which will be held at the Ryman Auditorium. Tickets to this event will be free but supplies may be limited.
