This week’s Belmont FYI feature profile of the week is Lorraina Scholten, Chair of the Social Work Department. She was nominated for the third guiding principle, “Do it Right.”
Lorraina says she most enjoys the opportunity to watch highly motivated students become professional social workers.
Lorraina feels we should look for opportunity for growth in all that we do. She believes we all try to do things right, but we also make mistakes. “Sometimes it is more comfortable to move on and distance ourselves from our mistakes rather than reflect on them and address them head-on,” she said. “When I make mistakes, I always try to correct them and especially learn something from them. That is what I really hope to model for students. Perfection is not the goal, growth is.”

The Belmont FYI Feature Profile of the Week will continue in August 2007 with the beginning of the fall semester.
