Sister Helen Prejean became pen pals with convicted killer Patrick Sonnier; when her eyes were opened to the execution process in the U.S., she wrote Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States which was number one on the New York Times Best Seller List for 31 weeks and later became a motion picture, play and premiere opera in San Francisco.

National Day of Prayer
Downtown activities to observe the 56th annual National Day of Prayer, an observation declared by the U.S. Congress in 1952 by President Truman. The YMCA of Middle Tennessee and The Operation Andrew Group (OAG) invite people from all faiths to the “Downtown Expression” on the plaza of The Nashville Arena (formerly Gaylord Entertainment Center), along with local leaders and pastors representing cultural and denominational diversity. CeCe Winans will be the featured musical artist.
