The Men’s Basketball team will host their final two home games this weekend. The Bruins will host Kennesaw State tonight at 7 p.m. and entertain ETSU on Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday’s game will be the regular season finale and Senior Day. The Women’s Basketball team will host their final home game on Saturday, March 4, against Florida Atlantic.
Tickets for the 2006 Atlantic Sun Championship tournaments for both men’s and women’s basketball are now on sale. The General Shale Brick 2006 Atlantic Sun Championship men’s tournament is March 2-4 at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. For more information , click here. Achievers

Freshman Alysha Clark of the Belmont women’s basketball team was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for the fourth time by the conference office. It is the first time a Belmont player has received the honor four times in a single season and the first time a player has achieved the feat since Belmont joined the A-Sun. [Click here to read more]

Coming Up

The third annual Liberal Arts and Liberal Learning Convocation Series, sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, is Feb. 27 through March 1. Vanderbilt Professor Paul H. Edelman will deliver the keynote address titled, “The Promise and Prospect of Math Literacy,” on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Beaman Conference Room A & B. A reception will follow. A pizza and movie night will feature the movie “October Sky” on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Massey Business Center 200B. After viewing the film, Belmont faculty will lead the discussion on the value of a liberal arts education in a science context. Dr. Edelman, professor of mathematics and law at Vanderbilt, will talk to the faculty about “Analytical Thinking: Connecting the Disciplines” at a Teaching Center luncheon on March 1 at noon in the Massey Board Room. Finally, a panel of Belmont alumni will talk about how a liberal arts education benefited their careers on March 1 at 10 a.m. in MBC 100.
The New Century Journalism Speakers’ Series presents Charlotte Hall of the Orlando Sentinel on Monday, February 27 at 10 a.m. in the Bunch Library Multimedia Hall, 2nd Floor.
The Wind Ensemble will perform Tuesday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Massey Concert Hall.
Ash Wednesday Service is March 1 at 10 a.m. in Neely/Black and White. The service will be led by Catholic Campus Minister David Lovell and Rev. Todd Lake.
The Women’s Basketball team will host their final home game on Saturday, March 4, against Florida Atlantic.

The deadline for The Chaney Distinguished Professor Award nominations is March 3. If you would like to nominate a colleague who has taught at Belmont full-time for at least three years, you may do so by emailing your nomination to votechaney@mail.belmont.edu or by sending your nomination to one of the committee members: Marilyn Young, Robert Grammer, Mary Vaughn and Richard Churchman.
Seeking Nominations for the Presidential Faculty Achievement Award. You are encouraged to nominate a deserving individual who has made outstanding contributions to student life outside the classroom for the 2006 Presidential Faculty Achievement Award. Those eligible are faculty who have taught full-time at Belmont for three years, or are adjunct teachers who have taught 6 of the last 8 semesters.
