An invitation from SGA:
The 2005-06 Belmont University SGA Congress, is striving to deepen its presence on Belmont’s campus and throughout the Nashville community. An exert from the 2005-06 Executive Cabinet Vision Statement reads, “…to build a community which focuses on deepening relationships, both internally and externally…” One of the ways we are attempting to deepen relationships internally is to honor a Belmont student that has made a significant contribution to the Belmont community and/or has experienced something exceptional in his or her life that SGA would like to celebrate. SGA plans to celebrate each of these individuals by recognizing them as an “Honorary Congress Member” at the beginning of a Congress meeting. exceptional Belmont student at every Congress meeting. This provides an outlet for SGA to encourage and recognize those Belmont students whom are deserving.
At the first Congress meeting on, Monday, August 29th, @ 5:00 p.m. in the Multimedia Room, Congress will be honoring the late Stephen Langston by recognizing Stephen as the first ever Honorary Congress Member. Stephen Langston was an 18 year old graduate of Overton High School that was enrolled to start classes here at Belmont this fall. Stephen was tragically killed in an automobile accident early Sunday morning, August 14th. Stephen had signed to play baseball at Belmont for the next four years. Coach Jarvis, Belmont’s Baseball coach, along with other current Belmont baseball players will join SGA in this very special time with Stephen’s family. Because SGA serves as the “student’s voice” on Belmont’s campus, honoring Langston at a Congress meeting is a way to allow the Belmont students and its student governmental organization to come together and recognize Langston and his family. SGA wants the Langston family to stay connected to Belmont and know that they are indeed a part of the “Belmont family.”
Many of you may or may not have had the opportunity to know Stephen, but as a member of the Belmont family, you are invited to come and be a part of this special time with the Langston family. The Congress meeting will start at 5:00 p.m. and the recognition will last about 10 minutes. All Congress meetings are open to the entire Belmont community, so please come and share in this time as we recognize a young man and his family that will remain in our hearts as a member of the Belmont family.
