Every file and every directory on our server will have a level of access assigned to it. Some files will be available to everyone and some files may be available for exclusive use in one directory. Part of setting up the new Hannon Hill content management system involves assigning rights and different levels of authorship to people across campus who support various pages. Our current content management system identifies a little over 300 owner/directory paired matches for editing and publishing. Of those pairs, approximately 90 are unique users. Of those 90 users, probably 30 are the most active and contribute the most content to the pages that you see on our site. The process of assigning rights and ownership in Hannon Hill is underway now. Workflow processes will follow soon after there are files available for editing.
The new system allows for a considerable amount of flexibility in ownership, workflow, and pre-publishing review. Users will have a single login to access all of the files and sites that are assigned to them. For the first time, we have the capability of producing an entirely new site on a dedicated server that will mimic the functionality of the publicly accessible web site. When the new site is ready for launch, publishing the entire site should produce few surprises in function....the raised eyebrows for the new look, we can deal with. With more and more emphasis on branding and marketing, we are optimistic about new processes for authoring, reviewing, and managing the pages on our site.
