Hannon Hill administrator training

Byron, Randall, Morton and I completed two days of administrator training on the new Hannon Hill content management system by mid-day Thursday. Amy Liu, our project coordinator from Hannon Hill provided us an overview of what the product can do and how the back-end processes work for developing templates in XML, how the system allows for multiple file-type outputs, and how the system is set-up for importing existing site data into Hannon Hill on our new Cascade Server.

By the end of our training, we asked that Hannon Hill take one HTML directory and one CONNIE directory (Belmont's current CMS application) and pull the data from those two sites into our newly designed format...we'll use that experience to formalize the transfer process for the rest of the site. The HTML site selected was the Prospective Student site (because of the multi-layered directory structure) and University College (because it isn't too large and it contains all the varieties of sub-pages and profiles from our current system). OK, so we also chose those two because their owners are on the flywheel web team...get over it, that team has worked hard and they deserve consideration as guinea pigs for the transition.

Our big assignment coming out of training is to complete the scope document for the best use of Hannon Hill's contracted support hours... most of which will probably focus on the more complicated XML, XSL, and XSLT work that will make life easier for the end user.

Morton and Randall pretty well tied for being most-overwhelmed by the technical aspects of training by the end of the day, but both have a grasp of what we are facing to make all of this happen on schedule.
