Directories and files on Belmont's current web site fall under three categories. Roughly 85% of the site is generated dynamically from data stored in a database using Belmont's content management system (affectionately known as CONNIE). Approximately 10% of the site is generated using Remote Development Server (RDS) or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) access, using Macromedia Dreamweaver or other page development/application development software. The remaining 5% of the pages on the site are hybrid pages, representing a mix of applications for form delivery, database calls, proprietary/custom applications, e-commerce, and remotely hosted pages. Each type of page (or file) employs a slightly different method of pulling the information into the Hannon Hill content management system.
Our current objective is to pull the current data into Hannon Hill and load that information into a basic template that looks something like the page on the left (click image to see enlarged view). We have encountered a challenge in the naming of the links in the departmental menu. For HTML pages, Hannon Hill can use the Title Tag or the File Name as the link text. In Belmont's current cms, there is a page title (different from the title tag field) that is used to create internal menu links...so a little creative programming may be in order. The good news is that once imported, all menu links on departmental menus can be re-named and edited , easily.
We're expecting to see a trial transfer of University College and Enrollment Services in the next day or so to have example transfers from the Hannon Hill staff that we can adapt for the rest of the site. Stay tuned.
