Belmont University Names New VP For Spiritual Development

toddlake.jpgDr. Todd L. Lake, currently the dean for university life at Baylor University, will become the new vice president for spiritual development at Belmont University in Nashville in January, the university announced today. "Dr. Lake brings a remarkable combination of knowing God's word and doing God's word," said Belmont University president Dr. Robert Fisher. "I'm thrilled to welcome him to Belmont.

Lake received his bachelor's degree in German studies magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1982 and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He studied at Princeton Seminary before earning his master of divinity degree in 1988 from Southern Seminary. In 1997, he earned his doctorate in systematic theology with a minor in church history at Boston College.

Before joining the leadership at Baylor five years ago, Lake was dean of chapel and minister to the university community at Wingate University in North Carolina. At Baylor, Lake led the development of the chaplain's office into University Ministries and began new initiatives in intentional Christian ministry including Baylor's resident chaplain program, which allows students at Baylor's Truett Seminary to live and minister in 10 residence halls; discipline-specific mission trips and service-learning opportunities; sports chaplaincy, and more. At Baylor, Lake also served as an assistant director of Baylor Horizons and a faculty advisor for Habitat for Humanity and the Junior Class.

Lake has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay; a legislative aide in California working on bills to protect migrant farm workers; and refugee resettlement worker in Boston. Lake and his wife, Joy Jordan-Lake, have two children, Julia Jordan-Lake, 9, and Justin Jordan-Lake, 5, and are currently in China bringing home newly adopted daughter Jasmine Lee Jordan-Lake, who will turn 1 on Dec. 15.
