One of Nation's Leading Online Journalists to Speak at Belmont
Rob Curley, general manager of World Online, the Internet division of The Lawrence Journal-World in Lawrence, Kans., will speak at Belmont University on Monday Feb. 2, on the subject of Online Journalism: Interactivity, Innovation and Inspiration, as part of the university's New Century Journalism Speakers Series. Curley, previously the manager of content development for Morris Digital Works, a part if Morris Communications since 1996. His team has developed the national newspaper web site of the year as named by either the Newspaper Association of America or Editor & Publisher magazine every year since 1998.
In 2001, the NAA named Curley as the newspaper industry's 'Internet Pioneer of the Year,' making him the youngest person to ever win the award.
In May of 2003, Editor & Publisher magazine and Mediaweek magazine named three sites built under Curley's direction as the top media sites on the Internet. In February of 2002, Editor & Publisher named The Capital-Journal's site as the best online newspaper in the country, as well as the best specialized news site in the nation.
Curley is a frequent speaker at many universities and Internet-based conventions around the world. His multimedia presentation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon in the Multimedia Hall, on the second floor of the Bunch Library. The event is free and open to the public and news media.
Belmont University's New Century Journalism program is designed to prepare students to work in newsrooms across broadcast, print and online media platforms.
