Cutting-edge Multimedia Journalist to Speak at Belmont
Multimedia journalist Jeff Houck of The Tampa Tribune will speak at Belmont University on Monday, Jan. 26, on the subject of being a journalist in the modern, digital, multi-media era. The event, presented by the Belmont University New Century Journalism Speaker’s Series, is free and open to the public and the news media. Journalists, educators and students are invited and encouraged to attend.
Houck, whose title is Leisure Team Leader, works at the cutting-edge Tampa News Center, which combines the operations of The Tampa Tribune and its television partner WFLA-TV NewsChannel 8. His team is responsible for health, family, food, teen and travel coverage. Houck also is an editor for special projects and an occasional television correspondent for WFLA-TV, and files stories for the operation's website, TBO.com.
"Jeff Houck represents the future of news in America," says Dr. Sybril Bennett, executive director of Belmont University's New Century Journalism Program and an assistant professor of journalism. "He is a trained print journalist and also reports for the paper's television partner. On top that, he files stories for the company's website. Houck is a competent multimedia journalist with a story to tell. And whether you are in church media, public relations, law, a student, an educator, or a journalist, you may benefit from what he has to say."
Houck is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. in the Bunch Library Multimedia Hall, on the second floor of the library.
Belmont University's New Century Journalism program is designed to prepare students to work in newsrooms across broadcast, print and online media platforms.
