Memphis Paper Reports on Hubie Smith Joining Belmont's Basketball Program
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports on the hiring of former Bartlett High School boys basketball coach Hubie Smith as the next director of basketball operations at Belmont University.
When he announced his resignation recently as boys basketball coach at Bartlett, Hubie Smith said he was interested in jobs in both coaching and administration. It didn't take him long to find one. Smith has been named director of basketball operations at Belmont University in Nashville. He will start there in January. The Memphis paper also mentions the upcoming Christmas at Belmont concert, to be televised by PBS nationwide."I wanted to get into college basketball for a long time, and this is a great opportunity," Smith said. "It's an opportunity to be in a Division 1 program with great people and a great coaching staff."
Smith, 42, will finish the semester at Bartlett, where he is athletic director. Smith stepped down as basketball coach in October after going 440-190 in 19 seasons. He led the Panthers to the 2001 Class AAA state title.
