New Entrepreneurship Major Offered at School of Business
The Undergraduate School of Business at Belmont University will begin offering a concentration in Entrepreneurship for Business majors pursuing a BBA, starting with the fall 2004 semester. The entrepreneurship major will prepare students to start their own businesses, work in family or other growing companies, or pursue employment in traditional business settings. A minor in Entrepreneurship will also be offered for students in majors outside of the College of Business.
Belmont Entrepreneurship students will balance classroom learning with participative experiences such as mentoring (from faculty and community entrepreneurs), internships, and opportunities to use the students’ own businesses as living laboratories, says Dr. Jeff Cornwall, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Cornwall is holder of the Jack C. Massey Chair in Entrepreneurship at Belmont University. He authors a weblog on entrepreneurship, The Entrepreneurial Mind.
According to a story in the October 26 Minneapolis Star-Tribune, in 1970, just 16 entrepreneurial courses were offered at various business schools nationwide. By April 2003, when Entrepreneur magazine ranked college entrepreneurship courses, it had 700 to choose from - from single classes to full degree programs.
Dr. Cornwall is quoted extensively in that story.
