Belmont University Partners With Fisk University to Create Music Business Program for Fisk Students

fisk and belmont signing fyi.jpgThe Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business at Belmont University entered into a partnership this week with Fisk University. In this new venture, Fisk students will enroll in a series of Belmont music business courses that will be combined with courses taught at Fisk to form a music business program within Fisk music and business departments.

“When institutions like Belmont and Fisk come together, everyone wins, especially the students,” Dr. Wesley Bulla, Dean of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business said. “Fisk has been a wonderful friend and neighbor, and I am excited about the partnership and the possibilities for the two institutions to expand our relationship.”

The program will initially be limited to six students per year entering as freshmen, for a total of 24 students for a fully subscribed program. Students will be selected prior to their enrollment at Fisk or early in the freshman year and will be expected to meet Fisk’s current admissions criteria, as well as the criteria in Belmont’s music business program.

Students enrolled in the joint program will work with Curb College Admissions Coordinator Meredith Kendall and Fisk advisers to ensure students have the proper sequence of classes. The Mike Curb Family Foundation will provide scholarships for Fisk students to cover any tuition differences.

“Because I serve as a board member at Fisk University as well as Belmont University, I’m very proud that the Curb College can be part of this historic partnership,” Mike Curb, president of Curb Records, said.

The Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business has previously partnered with Fisk University. In 2003, Belmont’s student-run Acklen Records collaborated with the acclaimed Fisk Jubilee Singers on the award-winning album In Bright Mansions. The album was recorded at Belmont’s Ocean Way Nashville recording studio and distributed by Curb Records. In Bright Mansions was nominated for a Grammy in 2004 for “Best Recording Package” and won a Dove Award for the song “Poor Man Lazarus” for the “Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.”
