Nashville’s Belmont University Stays Connected with Ocean Way Studios

Belmont University, one of the most respected music business and engineering institutions in the United States, has renewed its license of the Ocean Way name for its Nashville recording studios and the consulting contract with the studio's founder, Allen Sides. Ocean Way Hollywood was launched in 1977, and the Nashville studio was opened in 1996. Allen Sides' team of architects and acoustic designers transformed an elegant hundred-year old Brownstone church into one of the most advanced recording studios in the world.

"With the largest discrete Neve console on the planet, and the amenities of a 5-star hotel, Ocean Way Nashville became an immediate success," recalls Sides. "As much as I loved the studios, and as proud as I was of the design, I rarely had a chance to work there because I was too busy with my studio operations and album projects in LA. In 2003, when the possibility arose of Belmont University purchasing the studios it extended Belmont's campus into the heart of Music Row and provided Belmont with three exceptional music studios. The arrangement I worked out left our management team intact and allowed the studio to continue commercial operation as Nashville's premier studio, while providing internships and an incredible learning environment during the studio's off time."

The consultancy and expertise of Sides and his team has proven so successful, that Belmont University has decided to continue the productive relationship. Belmont President, Dr. Robert Fisher, explained: “Belmont’s nationally recognized Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business is built on a foundation of mutually beneficial relationships between Belmont and the music business community just across the street on Music Row. Belmont is thrilled to continue our relationship with Nashville’s premiere recording studio, Ocean Way, that allows our students to learn from the top producers, engineers, musicians and artists while also providing a state-of-the-art environment for the music community to continue creating quality work in a professional environment.”

Ocean Way Nashville was named Nashville’s Best Studio by Music Row, Nashville’s music industry publication, in 2006. Ocean Way’s impressive client roster includes Vince Gill, Harry Connick, Jr., Faith Hill, Train, Bob Seger, Yo Yo Ma, Reba McEntire, Michael W. Smith, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, matchbox twenty and Belmont alumni Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack and Brad Paisley.
