Belmont Co-Hosts Nonviolence Summit
Belmont University and American Baptist College teamed up as the Nashville Nonviolence Coalition to sponsor the Nonviolence Summit for youth and young adults, church and community leaders and educators on Saturday.
The summit, "Nonviolence Works: Identifying Causes, Embodying Solutions," was held at Baptist World Center. Its purpose was to equip and educate a new generation of youth and young adults about the social values of living a nonviolent philosophy and lifestyle.
Invited guests included Mayor Bill Purcell, Police Chief Ronal Serpas, Rev. James (Tex) Thomas and Bishop George Price. Dr. Bernard LaFayette of the University of Rhode Island’s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies served as the keynote speaker.
