Belmont, Nashville Songwriters Foundation and Nashville Songwriters Association International Announce Partnership
Belmont University and two songwriters organizations based in Nashville announced today they will work together on a partnership that could lead to a songwriting major at the university and a presence on or near the Belmont campus for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Belmont University President Dr. Robert Fisher and Nashville Songwriters Foundation Chairman Mark Alan Springer, along with Barton Herbison, Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, said the organizations would work together over the next year to develop specific programs under the partnership.
"Belmont has a long history of educating students for working in Nashville's signature music industry," Dr. Fisher said. "We are most optimistic that this partnership will lead to the creation of a new undergraduate program in songwriting as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame."
"We believe professional songwriters can make a meaningful contribution to courses organized and taught by the Belmont faculty, and the prospect of that collaboration is exciting to us," Springer said. "We believe our partnership will develop into a strong one that will advance the cause of songwriting and songwriters now and into the future."
The groups said they also would explore the possibility of a permanent home on or near the Belmont campus or Music Row for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by and a property of the Nashville Songwriters Foundation. The NSF is holding its 36th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies this Sunday, October 16, at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville.
