Belmont Welcomes Catholic Campus Minister
The Reverend Mr. David Lovell is being welcomed by the Belmont University community as its Catholic Campus Minister, the university announced today. "Deacon Lovell comes to Belmont at an important time, since Catholics are now the largest religious group after Baptists," said Dr. Todd L. Lake, vice president for spiritual development at Belmont. "Belmont is thrilled to welcome Deacon Lovell as part of our Christian community of learning and service."
Deacon Lovell serves as pastoral associate at Christ the King Catholic Church, which is partnering with Belmont University to make him available as Belmont's Catholic Campus Minister. Deacon Lovell teaches church history, ecclesiology and New Testament in the diocesan Deaconate Education Program and has served as a chaplain in the Marine Corps. Since 1990 he has been an instructor at Father Ryan High School, where he teaches theology and history and coaches soccer and tennis. Deacon Lovell, a native of Iowa, received his B.A. from St. Ambrose University and a graduate degree in theology from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
