Marketable Skills
Dr. Jeff Cornwall, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Belmont University, is quoted in this week's Nashville Business Journal, discussing why economics is a popular undergraduate major these days. Cornwall "says the upswing correlates with perceptions about finding post-graduate jobs," reports NBJ.
"Typically, what you see in times of economic downturns and tight job markets - and data supports this - is more and more students majoring in programs they think translate into marketable job skills," Cornwall says. You can read the story online here.
The fast-growing Entrepreneurship program at Belmont's School of Business has been ranked in the top 10 university "entrepreneurship emphasis" programs nationwide by Entrepreneurship magazine.
Belmont's Entrepeneurship program is one of the most comprehensive programs in the nation and the higest-ranked such program in Tennessee, offering both an undergraduate major in entrepreneurship and graduate-level classes in entrepreneurship. The Center for Entrepreneurship operates a Student Business Hatchery, on-campus retail space for student-operated businesses, community-focused educational programs, and an annual scholarship award sponsored by Union Planters Bank for the Outstanding Belmont Student Entrepreneur.
