Sociology Club Hosts "Road To Hope Tour" Event
Belmont University's Sociology Club is sponsoring a campus stop of the Road to Hope Tour, a project of the Road to Hope Tour Coalition (www.hopesvoice.org), which includes HIV/AIDS service providers, advocacy groups, and research organizations who have joined together in a historic movement to bring their "Does HIV Look Like Me?" national awareness campaign to sites from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco. The tour will focus on getting students to question stereotypes about HIV/AIDS with the goal of showing that that HIV can infect anyone regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, economic status, or gender.
The April 26th event (6-9 p.m., Neely Dining Room), will feature a panel of speakers from Hope’s Voice sharing their experiences and answering questions about living with HIV/AIDS. In addition, representatives from the Student Global AIDS Campaign will show students how to start their own chapters and join the fight against HIV/AIDS in their communities. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to speak with Hope's Voice and SGAC representatives and to pick up information packets about HIV/AIDS as well as materials from service-oriented student and community groups.
To provide additional information, The Road to Hope Tour Coalition’s educational RV will be on the Belmont University campus from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Other service oriented organizations include SAGE, Amnesty International, Black Student Association, Hunger & Homelessness, the BU clinic, and Nashville C.A.R.E.S. will have information about how you can get involved in their service projects.
