Boulevard, New Student-Run Art Gallery and Design Business, Opens at Belmont University
Belmont University announces the grand opening of Boulevard, an art consignment gallery and design studio run by university students and located in new university-built retail space fronting Belmont Boulevard. Boulevard opens Friday, Feb. 20, and invites the media and public to a celebratory open house from 5 – 9 p.m.
The business, created by students with the support of the Belmont University's entrepreneurship program, will provide retail gallery space for students to showcase and sell their work, and a design studio where students in Belmont's highly regarded arts program will create work for clients within the community and Belmont's campus.
Boulevard, created by aims bridge the gap between students and the community, giving students valuable learning experience working in a gallery and design studio.
Boulevard is run by the Belmont University Art Association and emerged as a proposal developed by the Art Association lead by student Erica Rudy, a design communications major, and advised by Assistant Professor Valerie Sloan during the spring semester of 2003. The business began to take shape in Dr. Jeff Cornwall's entrepreneurship class, where Rudy and studio art student Kaytie Seela merged their visions.
Boulevard will celebrate its opening with an event called blvdPOST – Nashville artists are asked to create postcard-sized art, sign the back, and donate it to the business for sale, with proceeds going to a university scholarship fund.
