Changes Coming to Belmont's Student-Run Record Label

Changes are ahead for Acklen Records, the student-run record label at Belmont University's Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, reports the Nashville City Paper today.

vanhook.JPGAfter languishing for years with no budget, Belmont University’s student-run record label is being prepped to run more like a record company by the fall semester. And it doesn’t hurt to have nods from the Grammy and Dove Awards. After five months on the job, Jim Van Hook, dean of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business at Belmont, is taking steps get Acklen Records office space and a dedicated budget to put out more than one record a year.

"This is a work in progress. Before I came there was nothing, literally no budget. If (students) took on a project they had to scratch, claw every way possible to find a way to pull it off," Van Hook said.
