Nashville's Newest Star-to-Be Has Belmont Connection
The Lancaster News, in Lancaster, S.C., profiles hometown girl and Belmont University graduate Julie Roberts, perhaps the next major recording star on Nashville's famed Music Row.
Mercury Records is expecting big things from Lancaster native Julie Roberts, who is getting major Nashville buzz as her first single, “Break Down Here,” hits airwaves across the country.Roberts studied voice at Belmont...
After attending the University of South Carolina - Lancaster for two years, she transferred to Belmont University in Nashville and there formed a band that played small clubs such as Harvey Washbanger's and Guido's, and big events such as the Nashville Predators games. After graduating from Belmont, she became a full-time staffer at Mercury to pay her bills, all the while working on her music at night. After Brent Rowan got hold of a copy of her demo he was so impressed they began working together immediately. In 2003, Rowan met with Luke Lewis to play new songs from several artists, among them Roberts’ music. At the end of the session Lewis said, "I want to know who this is. I want to meet this girl."
