Belmont's Christmas Gift to Nashville: Five Free Concerts

Belmont University announces a Christmas gift to the Nashville community: five free concerts, including one that will be nationally televised on PBS.

The free concerts begin Friday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. with the annual holiday concert of the Nashville Children's Choir. It will take place at Belmont Heights Baptist Church, 2100 Belmont Boulevard. No ticket is necessary.

The free holiday concert spree continues with Belmont's annual holiday music extravaganza, Christmas at Belmont, hosted by recording legend and Nashville icon Brenda Lee and filled with outstanding performances by Belmont's orchestra as well as the university's finest choirs and ensembles.

The Christmas at Belmont concert takes place Saturday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Massey Concert Hall on the Belmont University campus. Admission is free, but the popularity of this annual event means all tickets for the show have been reserved and no more tickets are available.

If you are not one of the lucky ticket holders for Christmas at Belmont, you can still see it – thanks to Nashville Public Television and the PBS network. This year's concert will be taped live by Nashville Public Television, for broadcast on PBS nationwide. The televised show will premiere on Nashville Public Television at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, and air on PBS nationwide on Christmas Day.

Free concert number three happens on Sunday, December 7 at 4:30 p.m. - Lessons and Carols with Belle Voci, featuring traditional American and English carols. Location: Wightman Chapel at the Scarritt-Bennett Center. No ticket is necessary.

The Belmont Camerata Musicale continues the free musical celebrations with their annual presentation of A Camerata Christmas, including a concert of holiday chamber music and a traditional holiday folk music sing-along, featuring Nashville favorite Kathy Chiavola. Time and place: Tuesday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Belmont Mansion on the university campus.

The fifth and final free Christmas concert features Dr. Richard Shadinger, associate dean of the Belmont University School of Music, who will present the traditional Christmas Eve Carillon Concert at the campus Bell Tower, located just off the corner of Belmont Boulevard and Portland Avenue, on Wednesday, December 24 at 2:00 p.m. The concert features traditional Christmas music played on the tower's 42-bell carillon.

Media coverage of these events is welcomed. Broadcast media, in particular, may find these events attractive for holiday-themed coverage. Contact Greg Pillon, director, office of University Marketing and Communications, 615-460-6645
