Community Tours New Entertainment/Student life Complex

openhouse.jpgOctober 25, 2003 – Belmont University celebrated the opening of its $52 million entertainment and student life complex Saturday with a Community Open House for the university's neighbors and the Nashville community, giving people an opportunity to tour the campus' newest addition and Nashville's newest entertainment venue.

The $52 million complex includes the Curb Event Center arena, the Beaman Student Life Center and the Maddox Grand Atrium.

People at the Community Open House event got a unique opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at the facility, which is a finalist in the competition to be selected to host one of next year's presidential campaign debates.

Guests also climbed the large rock-climbing wall inside the Student Life Center, one of the complex's most popular features, while face painting, activity booths, food, fun and prizes made for a family-oriented event.

The complex is an incredible addition to the Belmont University campus, and to the neighborhood and the Nashville community, says Belmont University President Dr. Robert Fisher. "We are simply amazed that it's ours, consider our selves blessed to have it, and are looking forward to sharing it with the Nashville community in various ways in the future."

The complex includes three buildings.

The Beaman Student Life Center, with its centerpiece rock-climbing wall, as well as a full-court basketball gymnasium, two indoor racquetball courts, a dedicated aerobics room, weight rooms, offices and meeting rooms for student organizations, student locker rooms and a convenience store, and wireless Internet access.

The Maddox Grand Atrium – an expansive anteroom featuring rich finishing details and elegant art works – connects the Beaman Student Life Center to the Curb Event Center. The Atrium will be used for receptions, dinners and concerts.

The Curb Event Center, the new 5,000-seat home of the NCAA Division I Belmont Bruin basketball teams, will host the 2004 Atlantic Sun Men’s Basketball Tournament as well as major music and entertainment events,. It is on the short list of potential sites to host a presidential campaign debate in 2004. The Curb Event Center also is home to the Curb Café, Nashville's newest intimate live performance venue.
