Belmont to Host Crucial Pretest for New CPA Exam
NASHVILLE, September 12, 2003 – Belmont University has an urgent message for anyone getting ready to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination to become a certified public accountant. The test is changing – and you can prepare for the newly revised and computerized exam by taking a "pretest" at Belmont University during the month of October.
Belmont University has been selected to host a "pretest" dry run for the newly revised Uniform CPA Examination, which will be delivered in a new computer-based format beginning April 5, 2004, throughout the United States.
The revised and newly computerized Uniform CPA Examination is a joint effort by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA); and Prometric. Belmont University will host the AICPA pretest for five sessions on Friday and Saturday October 17 and 18. Revisions to the CPA exam involve more than just switching to computerized testing. The new CPA exam also introduces a new case-study format called 'simulations', according to the AICPA.
"We strongly encourage all CPA exam candidates to take the pretest before taking the computer-based exam," says Dr. Jane B. Finley, associate professor of accounting and accounting program coordinator at Belmont.. "This pretest is great opportunity for our students to get exposure to the new exam. Taking the pretest provides a unique opportunity for students and CPA candidates to experience first-hand what the computer-based examination will be like. And those participating in the pretest also will make a valuable contribution to the accounting profession because feedback from the pretests is being used to refine the design of the actual computerized CPA exam."
There is no cost to take the pretest at Belmont, but there is limited space. Contact Dr. Jane B. Finley at 615-460-6000 or by email at finleyj@mail.belmont.edu.
The final paper-based version of the CPA examination will be given nationally on November 5 and 6, 2003. As of April 5, 2004, the computer-based CPA Examination will be offered up to six days a week, during two out of every three months throughout the year, affording CPA examination candidates more scheduling flexibility. Currently, the Uniform CPA Examination is offered only twice a year, in May and November, by the 54 U.S. boards of accountancy in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
