New Residence Hall Named for Longtime Trustees and Benefactors
NASHVILLE, August 25, 2003 – Belmont University's Board of Trustees has voted to name the university's new residence hall after longtime Belmont trustees and benefactors Helen and Ed Kennedy.
Helen Kennedy has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1991 and she currently serves as chair of the Nominating and Evaluation Committee, focusing on trustee selection and managing Belmont's relationship with the Tennessee Baptist Convention. She is a past-president of Belmont Mansion Association, the Belmont Alumni Association and the Belmont Auxiliary.
Helen Jarrett Kennedy graduated from Belmont University – then called Belmont College – in 1955, a part of Belmont's first four-year class. Her first involvement with guiding Belmont's future after graduating was joining the Alumni Association Board in 1974. Ed Kennedy is a retired successful Nashville business man, the founder and former owner of Ed's Supply Company, a Nashville company in the refrigeration business. He served on the Belmont Board of Trustees from 1973-1986.
The Kennedy couple launched Belmont Mansion restoration efforts in 1971 with a financial gift to fund restoration of a mansion bedroom, and also lead the effort to restore Freeman Hall in the early 1980s.
