Belmont to Host 2004 A-Sun Championship at Curb Center
Belmont University will host the Atlantic Sun Conference men’s basketball tournament in 2004 at the university's brand-new 5,000-seat Curb Event Center, with the winner of the championship receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The 2004 event will be the first time that an Atlantic Sun Championship will be played in the state of Tennessee.
"Given all the great schools in the Atlantic Sun Conference and the cities that they represent, it is an honor for Belmont University in Nashville to be chosen to host the A-Sun men's basketball championship," said Belmont University President, Dr. Robert C. Fisher. "It will be a special treat for us to do so in the inaugural season of our new Curb Event Center. It will be a great showcase for both Belmont University and the Atlantic Sun Conference."
The eight-team event will take place over three days in March 2004, with a total of seven games played – four quarterfinals on March 4, two semifinals on March 5 and the championship game on March 6.
Belmont University, with an enrollment of nearly 3,400 students, is currently competing in its second season in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bruins earned a bid to the men’s basketball championship in each of its first two seasons of league play, and finished 17-12 last season and 12-4 in Atlantic Sun play.
"We are thrilled to bring the A-Sun men’s basketball championship to a great city like Nashville and a fabulous new facility in Belmont’s Curb Event Center," said Atlantic Sun Commissioner Bill Bibb. "Taking our championship to the 'Music City' for the first time will be very exciting to our fans and the Belmont staff and community will do a first-rate job of hosting the tournament."
