Belmont Possible Location for 2004 Presidential Debate

Belmont University is being considered as a site for the 2004 Presidential Debates. Belmont will be one of 14 possible locations nationwide to host a debate. If selected, Belmont would host the debate in the university’s new state-of-the-art Curb Event Center, scheduled to open this September.

“Because of the Curb Event Center’s configuration, flexibility, acoustics, dedicated television production facilities, parking and security measures, the university believes it will make a perfect venue for one of the debates,” said Belmont University President Robert C. Fisher.

Belmont is one of two Nashville universities selected as possible host sites. Vanderbilt University is also being considered.

“Now that it has come to light that both Vanderbilt University and Belmont University are contenders, this gives our city an even better chance of hosting the debate, and that’s great for Nashville,” said Fisher.

The Commission On Presidential Debates will conduct site surveys during the next several months and plans to announce the final sites in November 2003.
