Belmont Names Vice President For University Advancement
Belmont University President Robert C. Fisher announces the appointment of Bethel (Bo) Thomas, Jr., Ph.D., as Vice President of University Advancement.
Thomas will direct all university programs related to fund-raising, including management of capital campaigns, major gift solicitation, and planned giving. Thomas will serve on Belmont University’s Senior Leadership team, and will provide supervision to staff members in the Offices of Development and Alumni Relations.
"Dr. Thomas brings all the right attributes to this position including relationship-building skills, a heart for the community, and strong leadership. Most importantly, he has already fallen in love with Belmont University and is telling our story to anyone who will listen,” remarked President Fisher.
Thomas’ management consulting firm, Thomas Consulting in Little Rock, Ark., has been contracted by such clients as the United States Department of Transportation, ALLTEL Telecommunication, Tyson Foods, Nucor Steel, the Arkansas Department of Human Services, and Post Cereals, to name a few, since 1985. Previously, he served as the director of Human Resources and Management Development for Acxiom.
A licensed psychologist, Thomas brings to Belmont a strong background in higher education. He held numerous positions at the University of Central Arkansas from 1970-1983, including Director of University Counseling Services and Professor of Psychology and Counseling.
“Each new thing I learn about Belmont exceeds my expectations,” said Thomas. “This is a place of high energy and enthusiasm, a university responsive to the community. Belmont has a rich tradition and it has continually transformed itself to better help students reach their fullest potential and serve the needs of the world in which they live.”
Thomas is a published author of numerous business management books and articles. A native of Smithville, Tenn., he received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee. Thomas received his Ph.D. in counseling and psychology from Ohio University, and completed his post-graduate study from the Executive Program in Organizational Management at Stanford University.
