School of Music Showcases Best of Commercial Music Program
Belmont University School of Music presents its annual Commercial Music Showcase on Monday, February 3 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Early last fall, all students in the Commercial Music program were invited to audition for the five spots in the Showcase. The Commercial Music program is designed for students who wish to study contemporary/non-classical styles of music.
With the help of Belmont's Commercial Advisory Panel and the Board members of the Friends of the School of Music, a panel of distinguished judges was assembled to choose from among the nearly 100 hopefuls. Among the adjudicators were publishers, songwriters, managers, agents and local artists, including several nationally known artists such as Kim Carnes, K.T. Oslin, and 80's rocker Kip Winger.
Well-known industry leaders Paul Moore of William Morris Agency, Dan Keen of ASCAP, Mary Miller of Roger Miller Music, and Melanie Smith-Howard of Harlan Howard Songs were also on hand to judge the auditions. At the end of the two day audition process, five exceptional singer/songwriters were chosen to represent the School of Music in its one and only annual showcase:
Brittini Black , Country
Emily DeLoach , Alternative
Jason Johnson , Gospel and Blues
Lauren Lucas , Country and Blues
Silas Stamey , Country
Every one of these students is a unique talent, indicative of the broad range of Belmont's Commercial Music program. Each student will perform two songs, and many of the selections are original compositions. The concert also features the best of the School of Music's background vocalists, instrumentalists and crew. All of the music charts for the concert have been arranged by the students of Belmont's composition and arranging classes.
The Showcase is open to the public free of charge and will be held in Massey Concert Hall on the Belmont campus.
Belmont University School of Music offers a comprehensive curriculum in diverse musical styles for students of all ages, including bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, and preparatory study.
