Finally

IMG_1513.jpg

Finals week is finally here and I'm feeling furiously forlorn. Ok, maybe I'm not, but I did enjoy using all those F's in the last sentence. I think my finals week is a lot more relaxed than everybody else I know. I've got a final in Psych on Tuesday and that's it, aside from having to turn in a paper in one class and a final portfolio in my Creative Writing class. It's funny to think that another year has come and gone and I'm sitting here with nothing to do but read and write, and read and write, and read and write some more. Oh, yeah, and hang out with friends.

What a week...

It's only Thursday but it feels like the weekend should be here already! Yesterday was pretty rough; we were up until 3 AM on Tuesday night because of the tornado warnings, so everyone was exhausted. On top of that, I had to run 3.5 miles for my half-marathon training. It was a beautiful morning though, so I was able to run outside (which I love). I had no trouble falling asleep last night and I think I slept better than I have in a long time.

New Year, New Semester

It’s so good to be back! I had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas break in Kansas City and now I’m ready to start another semester. It was fun to see my friends here at Belmont; I missed them more than I realized! Classes started on Tuesday and I am really enjoying them so far. I'm taking a linked cohort this semester, which consists of two classes from two different disciplines that are taught by two different instructors.

Homework...Who does that?

It seems like as the semester moves along, there are fewer people going out on the weekends. But now things are starting to make sense. Just like myself, pretty much everyone on campus has a lot of big group projects, research papers, or just a lot of assigned reading to do. My phone calls to my friends are different now than just about a month ago, when classes were just starting. Towards the end of August and the beginning of September, a typical conversation would be like,
Me: "Hey, what's going on? Do you wanna see what's going on downtown?"
Friend: "Just hanging out, man. Sure lets go out and find something cool to do"
Me: "Alright man, I'll be there in a few minutes".

Now it's something like,
Me: "Hey, what's going on man?"
Friend: "Nothing much, man. Just busy with some homework and stuff."
Me: "Are you serious? Homework...Who does that?"
Friend: "Man, I have a lot of stuff due pretty soon, and plus I just want to catch up some sleep."

Back On Track

It took me a couple of weeks to get used to my weird schedule, but I finally think I got the hang of it. Yesterday was the first day this year that I have been able to stay awake in all of my classes. Yeah, I know it took me a little while, but these classes are really hard to get hyped up for this semester. I am taking German, which is a pretty cool class, and Nuclear Terrorism. How about that for a weird schedule? Actually, my Nuclear Terrorism class is very interesting because it makes me think outside of the box and forces me to map out and plan critical situations such as a nuclear bomb threat. This probably wouldn't be all that applicable to my major, which is entrepreneurship, but it makes studying for a test seem pretty simple. ha ha Okay, not funny.

Big Band Blues - Irish Ballads - And the Art of Wing-Walking

photoooo.jpg

Okay…how can this already be the end of June? I’m quite perplexed at how extremely fast summer vacation is flying by. Lately, the days blend into one another as I now have become adjusted to a normal routine. I wake up, eat breakfast, work out, attend class, intern from 2-6, and then return back to the Commons. On most nights, I frequently take a bike ride down 16th Avenue and up 18th. It’s definitely an intense journey; But nonetheless, I somehow battle through another heart-pounding adventure.

So little time and so much to do!

Oh college. Sitting up here (in my lofted bed) contemplating the fact that there are about six weeks left in my freshman year of college is insane! And a bit overwhelming, being that I have two 15 page papers due that I still need to do a considerable amount of work on, at least 3 more smaller papers, and a presentation or two, all in the course of that time. Don’t get me wrong, I love my classes this semester.

Midterms again?

Have I ever mentioned that the weather in Nashville is weird? Saturday I woke up to see a sprinkling of snow on the ground (yay! Snow!! Finally!), and yesterday I found myself basking in the sun in 72 degree weather. Insanity!! While this may not be anything novel to all you guys out there from Nashville, it normally doesn’t get to even the 60 degree mark where I am from until April. Anyway, enough about weather! Now onto important stuff...like school work!

My first semester as a BRUIN!

Hey y'all! I'm Tucker, and I'm a brand new freshman! This is my first semester as a college student and I couldn't have chosen a better school to attend than Belmont University. Belmont has been such a great fit for me. At first I was SO nervous to venture off to "college land," as I like to call it...but once I had moved everything into my dorm, met my amazing suitemates, and started my classes, I fell in love with it here. Belmont-Lipscomb Game!.jpg

I went back home to Franklin, TN about a week after I had moved in so I could see my family, and I found myself looking around my house to decide what to bring "home"...I never thought that after only a week, I would begin to call Belmont my home. I thought I'd be homesick because I had never been away from my family for more than a week! It's not like that at all, and I find myself not wanting to go home as much. My mom thinks I only come home for food and for her to do my laundry. Ha ha.

Bye Belmont!

Belmont Tower at Sunset No, this doesn't actually mean I'm leaving the school, just looking forward to the Christmas Break. Until then, I still need to focus on my last projects due for class as well as studying for finals. It's not that bad though if you know what I have to do. For one class, I have to create a simple website that includes a picture and some text using HTML, and for my other project I have to mix and edit a recorded song. I even recorded myself performing on the song to make it even better. I'm not that good so don't worry... it's not a career move.

I want to go home so bad but I'm going to miss a lot of my friends here in the dorm and on campus. It seems like everyone is from all over the country, but I'm the only one from good ol' Nashville. Hey, at least I don't have to drive hours upon hours. For me, it takes about 20 minutes with heavy traffic. Well, I hope everyone has a good Christmas break.

Anyone like Monopoly?

Ok, so I know that most of our posts lately have seemed really busy and I'm sure that I seem stressed. So I've decided to let you in on some of the type of work I've been up to inside the classroom. I'm in an accounting class that I hated at the beginning of the semester, but I'm getting the hang of it. One major component of that class is a project and in my class, it's a monopoly project. I'm sure you're wondering why a bunch of college students are playing monopoly in class, but I promise it has been really helpful and is actually, experiential learning is really refreshing.

The "College Focus"

Wow, these weeks are going by so FAST. What Happened? It feels like I go to sleep one night and it's Sunday, and when I wake up it's already college football time. The only days I seem to feel somewhat are Sunday, Monday, Friday, and Saturday. The other days seem to be non-existent. I'm serious, classes feel like about 10 minutes long and about 20 for my TuesdayThursday classes. I call it the "College Focus", because every college student either is really stressed, has a lot of work to do, or just needs some GOOD sleep.

Working hard!

So much to do, so little time. Between all the papers, projects, tests, and speeches I have had in the past week, it finally feels like college. Thankfully, I have been able to avoid the dreaded all-nighter thus far. After this week though, things should go back to a normal coursework until finals time.

The Dreaded "Midterm"

Let me just say that it is soooooo relieving to have midterms out of the way! These past few weeks have been pretty stressful, but thank goodness for fall break. I only had midterms in a few classes, some being before fall break and some being after. Being a freshman, the dreaded "midterm" was something that I'd never experienced, although I have to say... it's very over rated.

Hey, Where did all the free time go?

So, about the first half of the semester is over now and campus noticeably changing every day. First of all, classes are beginning to pick up a little as far as homework and quizzes. I can remember the first week of classes when there was a lot of energy and excitement around campus from the freshmen orientation events to everyone having free time to hang out and chill with a few friends. Yeah, those were the days when classes didn’t have much homework and pretty much everyone had all the time in the world to hang out. The hardest thing was trying to find something to do.

One month down...

Well it has now been a month since I’ve arrived here at Belmont. Crazy to think it has already been a month. Classes are well underway, and the homework continues to be piling up (at least I am not as much of a procrastinator as I was in high school). I have settled into a nice little routine consisting of school, homework, socializing with friends, wasting way too much time on the computer and of course, Target runs.

Time Management... What's That?

Time waits for no one, at least that's what they say. And never have those words been truer than in my recent weeks of college. Now, I'll be the first to admit, neither am I the most orderly person, nor am I the most timely. However, being in college, it's looking like I'm going to change all that. There is so much to remember to do, it's easy to lose track of the time and find myself just barely making a homework assignment or maybe missing one altogether. Basically, the responsiblity of applying myself to my work and making time for scholastic activities first, can be difficult to do. I'm just now getting into the swing of things, and I'm still not quite sure who's controlling the swing.
