Let the Games Begin

It's that time again! I can't believe classes started over two weeks ago already! Move-In-Day was simply a blur! As an RA (Resident Assistant) I spent a sleepless week with my staff (prior to Move-In-Day) getting our hall ready for our beautiful freshman girls to move in! This year our theme is the movie Enchanted and my floor is Andalasia! Where there were once blank white walls, there are now flowers, trees, and even forest animals all over the walls!

And, more than just the decor, I'm happy to report that the halls are constantly busy with late night girl talk, lots of laughter, and study groups around the clock! It has really been a blessing to get to know the girls living on my floor! I love hearing all of their unique stories and exciting thoughts and plans for the coming years.

Now that I'm a Junior it's so interesting to look back and see this Freshman class getting acclimated to Belmont and their new surroundings! Probably my favorite thing about Belmont (and the reason why I decided to work with Residence Life) is the never ending opportunity to get plugged in and involved. For instance, the South Village (which consists of the Wright, Maddox, and Kennedy residence halls) just put on a huge party called the "South Village Shindig" where we had four AWESOME live bands play, games (like a water balloon toss and a pie eating contest), a photo booth, a late night dance party, and not to mention all the cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones we could eat! It was an awesome night and it was so fun to meet and hang out with everyone!

Not only do we have lots of cool programs like the South Village Shindig, but we have smaller get together events and plenty of study/hang out time in the main lobby where we play pool and get to know each other by talking about everything from the latest homework assignments to debating over the best guitar player of the 1970s was.
