At the Old Ballgame!

Ever since we have lived in Kansas City, Royals baseball games have been a summer tradition in my family. My dad, a dedicated sports fan, buys 40 home game tickets each season and proudly cheers the Royals on…no matter what their record is ;-). We always have a great time at Kauffman Stadium (pictured at right), especially on Friday nights when they shoot off fireworks after the game.P1010377.JPG I love spending nights at the ballgame with my family, and I hope that the tradition continues for years to come (which, knowing my dad, it probably will). The Royals take on the Seattle Mariners tonight here in KC -I'll be at the stadium, cheering them on to victory!

For the 4th of July, my family and I had the opportunity to go to our friends’ lake house on Lake Lotawana. We had a great time and the fireworks over the lake were beautiful! On Sunday, my family and I spent an evening downtown at Union Station. We ate a very nice dinner at Pierpont’s and then went to see the Bodies Revealed exhibit at Science City. It was incredible!!! The exhibit was divided into several different sections, each one displaying a different body system (skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, nervous/endocrine, respiratory, digestive, and reproductive). Actual preserved human bodies were displayed, so it was kinda creepy to think that everything we saw was once alive, but also fascinating at the same time. I wish I could have visited Bodies Revealed when I was taking Anatomy & Physiology in high school! It was such an awesome experience.

After thinking and praying about my career plans for several years now, things are finally starting to come together. I met with a career counselor from Johnson County Community College, and after taking the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs personality tests, I have (somewhat) narrowed down my list of possible career options. Right now, I am looking into Occupational Therapy. Occupational therapists work with individuals who suffer from a mentally/physically/developmentally/emotionally disabling condition, helping them learn (or relearn) to participate in daily occupations of life. It seems like it would be a nice fit for me. Also, Belmont has a great Occupational Therapy program, so if I do end up pursuing a career in that field then I should be all set! I’m actually off to job shadow an occupational therapist today...wish me luck!
