Ready for a Break!

This weekend my roommate and I escaped to her house, in Franklin, for a much-needed break. Her parents and siblings are spending a couple of weeks in Kansas City, so Raychel (my roommate) and I had the house to ourselves! On our way out to Franklin, which is about 15 minutes south of Belmont, we stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a few snacks. We originally planned to get brownies and ice cream…but somehow we ended up leaving with both of those items, plus chocolate chex mix, chocolate cake, hot chocolate, and chocolate chips. DSCN2241.JPG After baking a batch of what were possibly THE BEST chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had in my life, Raychel and I settled in on the couch with our chocolate treats and watched the movie version of the musical “Rent.” It was a very interesting movie. I really enjoyed the music and I learned how many minutes are in one year: 525, 600! Raychel and I had that song stuck in our heads all night.

After sleeping in late on Saturday morning, we stopped by 9 Fruits, my favorite smoothie place ever, to get our signature smoothie, “Berried in Kiwi.” It was so nice to relax with Raychel and spend some time off campus. I think Raychel and I are going to room together next year—hopefully in a suite in Thrailkill with two of our other friends, Laura and Ateia. I am really looking forward to next semester!!

Spring Break is almost here and I am so ready for it. It’s been almost 12 weeks since I’ve seen my dad and my little brother! They will be waiting for me at the Kansas City airport when I arrive late this Wednesday night—hopefully I’m still taller than my brother…although I doubt that I am. It will be so nice to see my friends from home, sleep in my own bed, shop, and, of course, cook while I’m in KC. I am really looking forward to it!!!

After visiting nearly 15 churches in the Nashville area, I think that I have finally found my church home. Midtown Fellowship is a church community that meets at Rocketown, a popular music venue in downtown Nashville. One thing that I really like about Midtown is the congregation. Most of the members are college students, so there’s always a good chance that you will see someone there that you know. Also, the worship band plays off stage, which I really enjoy. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual, but there is still a strong sense of reverence. I love being there.

I haven’t been able to run for the last few days because, somehow, I strained a muscle in my foot! It’s very sore just along the outer edge and it hurts to walk. I’ve given it a few days to rest, so hopefully I will be able to continue training for the Country Music Half-Marathon. It will be here so soon, as will the end of the semester. It’s hard to believe that I’ve already (almost) finished my first year of college…
