The Best Convo Ever!
I went to the coolest convo convo ever last night! It was a Songwriting Q&A session featuring 3 songwriters from the Nashville area. Among those songwriters was Andy Davis who just happens to be one of my favorite artists!! He graduated from Belmont in ’03 and has been increasingly successful since his graduation. He’s still not a big as he should be, but I know he’s going to be insanely popular soon!
It was really interesting to listen to the insight that Andy and the others had on the writing process. As a relatively new songwriter, it was great for me to experience that. I learned a lot from sitting in there for an hour. I’ve had experiences where I’ll write a really good verse and chorus and then I don’t know where to go from there or how to finish the song. Andy and the other songwriters said that it’s best to push through, concentrate, and finish the song, or you could just leave the idea and come back to it at a different time. They also said that some songs may take only a few hours to write, but some songs can take weeks or even months to finish. It was very encouraging to hear that from really accomplished songwriters.
In other news, I really enjoyed the food in the caf today. FYI, at Belmont, we call the cafeteria, The Caf. It’s just better that way, believe me! I'm a huge believer of the Abbreviation Take Over Process, so I thoroughly enjoy saying, "See ya guys, I'm headin to the caf! See ya there!" For lunch today I had popcorn chicken and salad...it was great!
I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving Break!! It’s coming up next week and I’m so so so excited! I’m ready for some turkey, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, etc. I’m going to stop listing food now simply because it’s making me very hungry!
