Sports Highlights

Well, Thanksgiving break is over and it’s time to get ready for finals. Today is Tuesday and I already feel like it should be the end of the week. I guess I didn’t realize how much work I still have to do before the semester ends! This week I’m working on a 10-page paper in addition to studying for my finals and completing a few last-minute assignments. It’s going to be a very busy week, but the end is near!

Thanksgiving was wonderful. I had a chance to spend lots of time with my family, catch up with friends and, of course, eat plenty of good meals. It was still hard to leave my family at the end of the week, but it feels like it gets a little bit easier each time. (It also helps to know that I am going to see them again in two weeks!)

One very exciting event that took place while I was at home in Kansas City was the KU-MU football game (also known as the “Border War”). I actually didn’t know what a big deal this game was until I got home. Tickets to the game were selling at the outrageous price of $400 per seat! MU and KU have always been rivals and this year their game was even more intense because KU’s football team was ranked 2nd best in the nation and Mizzou was close behind them with a 4th place ranking (now they are 3rd). MU’s success helped them win the Big 12 North and on Saturday night the team will compete against Oklahoma. I can’t say that I plan on watching the game (I’m not exactly a football fan), but I will get an update from my dad.

Last night I went to the Belmont men’s basketball game. It was the first home game and I had a great time!! I forgot to take my camera, so this picture is from the website.

The visiting team was MTSU and I am proud to say that we beat them 85 to 62! It was fun learning all of the Belmont cheers and chants. I also really enjoyed listening to the pep band! I played in my high school pep band and had a great time, so I think I might try out for the Bruin Blast next year! I will need to spend some time practicing before I even think about auditioning...it’s been a while since I’ve played my flute!!

Next semester I am also thinking about taking piano lessons. I have always loved playing the piano but I don’t necessarily want to major in music. Hopefully I will be able to fit in a piano lesson once a week so that I can continue to play. I love playing the piano because it’s a great way to relieve stress and it helps me focus. Next year my classes on Thursdays and Fridays don’t start until 1:00pm, so I should have plenty of time.

This week is going to be pretty crazy, but I will make it through. I’m not sure what my plans are for the weekend yet. I might go for a hike with a few of my friends and possibly go see 'It’s a Wonderful Life' at TPAC! One of my friends, Tiffany, told me about this restaurant called the Wildhorse Saloon. It is located downtown and, according to her, it is a place that you must visit while in Nashville. It sounds like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to go! I’m still not a big country music fan, but I might like to learn how to line dance…
