The Wright Fit

What a week! I can’t believe it’s gone by so quickly. Last weekend was a blast. It was so good to finally see my parents and I had fun showing them around Nashville! On Friday afternoon my mom and I walked around Centennial Park and enjoyed the TACA (Tennessee Association of Crafts Artists) Fall Fair. There were hundreds of really talented artists showcasing their handcrafted masterpieces. My mom bought me a really pretty sky-blue topaz ring—I absolutely love it! We also shared a bag of fresh, homemade kettle corn…it was a perfect day!

Last night my roommates and I stayed up way too late. We were trying to get our homework done (and cram for mid-terms) but we just couldn’t focus! We don’t see each other much during the day so when we finally get together at night we love to catch up. Even on the busiest of nights we still find time to talk about our friends, family, classes, and everything in between. It’s hard to believe that over the short span of six weeks we have gone from being complete strangers to very close friends.

I have to admit that the whole “three girls in one room” thing intimidated me at first. I thought that I would only have one roommate so when I saw TWO names on my housing information sheet I kind of freaked out. Everyone assured me that it would work out yet I couldn’t help but wonder…what if two people got along really well and excluded the other? And, even worse, what if I was the one they excluded? I worried about this for a week or so before finally coming to the conclusion that I needed to trust God and just know that He was in control. Although I was still somewhat anxious about the situation, it helped to remember that there was a reason—beyond my knowledge—that I had been given two roommates instead of one.

Coincidentally, my roommates and I ended up going to the same summer orientation! Thanks to Facebook we each had a pretty good idea of what the other two looked like and we were able to find each other in our first session!! Raychel and Bethany (my roommates-shown in the picture below) both seemed laidback, friendly and funny. The three of us got along very well and I left orientation feeling genuinely optimistic—even excited—about having two roommates and living in Wright Hall.

The next big event that I anticipated was move-in day. I wondered how three people (especially three girls) could share one not-so-spacious room. Where would my 10 large boxes of stuff go?! Surprisingly, we managed to get everything moved in and organized in just two hours. We were happy with that accomplishment and at the end of the day we were exhausted!

I think my roommates would agree with me when I say that the first night we spent in our room was awkward. It was just weird to fall asleep with two strangers in the room! Since then, however, we have grown to understand and trust each other. I love spending time with them and I’m very thankful that we all get along so well. One really great thing about having two roommates instead of just one is the fact that you don't have to spend too much time by yourself. It's nice to have time to yourself sometimes but, trust me, too much "alone time" can make you feel homesick and lonely. Besides, every once-and-a-while you need a distraction from your homework...

Speaking of homework, I should really get started on mine now—I have so much to do this weekend! Fall Break starts next Wednesday and I’m very excited to go home and see my family and friends in Kansas City!! I will be flying alone for the first time so I’ll let you know how that goes…it will definitely be an adventure!
