College...A Full-Time Job.
I have been stressed out these few days with big projects and assignments being due for class as well as other things such as meetings. I usually call my mom every other day or so, and for the most part I am complaining about how busy I am. And I forget that I am talking to my mom, who happens to work six days a week at her job. So my use of the word "busy" is slightly different from hers. There are some days when I feel like I just have nothing left to finish out the day. I don't understand because I go to sleep at a reasonable time every night and wake up an hour or two before my classes. This is to sort of get in the process of waking up. But it never fails, every day there is at least one class period that I seem not to be very coherent. Trust me, I am not sleeping in class, I'm just not totally focused. If that makes any sense at all. And then, on top of all of my classes I have to make it to organization meetings, church functions, and the much needed convocation events.
Now, I will run through a typical day of me...Josh Homer.
At around 6:00 a.m. or so, my cell phone goes off and it scares me every morning. My alarm is an old Busta Rhymes song "Woo-Haa, I got you all in check." I am too lazy to change it to something else, but it does actually wake me up in the morning.
So at around 7:00, I actually get out of bed and the first order of business is the e-mail. My e-mail contains a lot of important information as far as if there are any meetings or convocation events for the day as well as any Facebook notifications. Yeah, I'm the typical college student, and I am addicted to Facebook, but I am getting counseling and treatment from close friends. It's literally taking over my life slowly, but surely (lol).
At 9:00 I'm in German class, one of my more exciting classes of the day. This is a very interesting class because for one I am really intrigued by German culture and would love to one day conduct regular business over there. Also, because it forces me to interact with other classmates and learning how to speak the language. For example, "Wie hießt du?" I just asked you, "What is your name?" Now you would respond, "Ich hieße.....(whatever your name is)" See that's pretty cool right, NOT. Just try remembering all that stuff for a test that I just happen to have tomorrow.
Then at 10:00 there are lots of things that could be going on during this hour, so it could get a little hectic sometimes. There aren't any classes scheduled during this time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because this time is dedicated to convocation events and any other meetings and such. To graduate, I need at least 60 convo credits and since I am a slacker I only have around 20 or so credits. That's pretty bad because there are a lot of freshmen that have about twice as many as I do right now. I also usually have my weekly Entrepreneurship meetings when actual or hopeful student business owners like myself can present our business venture in front of others, and gain some much needed knowledge about launching, managing, and operating our own business.
At 11:00, I head over to my Marketing class. I hate to say this, but this isn't one of my favorite classes. Don't get me wrong, my professor is pretty cool and she does a great job as far as the flow of the class, but overall it doesn't seem to help out when test time rolls around. I mean the first test that she gave seemed hard, and I happened to get a pretty reasonable grade. But the test that we just took last week seemed pretty easy. I just didn't understand my low grade because I studied a good amount and was confident about it.
Now at noon is my last class of the day, yet it is the one that gives me the most trouble out of all of them so far this year. She is probably my favorite professor of my whole school career here at Belmont because she is very student-friendly and knows how to explain concepts in a practical manner. Saying this, just remember that it is Calculus and it can get really tough in a hurry.
At 1:00, I am done for that day as far as classes are concerned, but I also face a huge dilemma... Should I walk all the way beck to my apartment or stay here on campus and pretty much waste an entire hour and try to get some studying or homework done. So, I usually tend to stay on campus and maybe hang out in a friend's dorm room or go over to the Beaman and play a little basketball or something for a little while.
At 2:00, I am getting ready to start my infamous campus tour. If you have taken one of my tours, then you would definitely remember the great time you had during that wonderful 45 minutes we go to spend together talking about "How much I love me some Belmont" and all the great and exciting opportunities we have here.
