Breakin’ In The New Freshmen

JoshWhen my class came in just a couple of years ago, everyone was just amazed how big the class was and how academically qualified we were. But fast forward to now, this class easily beat my incoming class by a few hundred, and from what I hear they are more qualified academically as well. This just shows how the culture and standard surrounding Belmont is quickly changing and growing with each class. The vibe here on campus is much different from years past as far as the start of school. It seems like the freshmen brought an extra boost of energy to campus and it can be noticed on everybody’s faces.
But no matter what, I’m STILL the “Big Man on Campus” (pun intended) and I feel like it’s my job to sort of break the newbies into campus. Don’t worry, I do so in a nice manner. Well, unless you’re this guy. He should have listened to me the first time. This is what happens, I will squish you until you give in. I ought to make this a tradition, but I really could see a lawsuit coming from this. Actually, I had some freshmen over my apartment to hang out a few nights ago, and since he was a big guy as well I just wanted to let him know that I’m the upperclassman.

Back where I belong!

I’m finally back at Belmont and I couldn’t be more excited! It took me forever to move into my dorm because I am in the process of recording my demo, so I gradually started the process of moving in on Saturday morning before going to the studio and then finished moving in by Monday night. I love my roommate! Her name is Tori and she is one of the sweetest, most down to earth people and I’m excited to live with her this year! Wednesday was the start of classes, which I hope went well for all the new freshmen and transfer students! I know it can all be a lot to grasp when first coming to a new campus and lifestyle.

Long stretch of Highway…

takinthewheel.jpg
I’m typing out this blog on another one of those blistering-hot Nashville evenings. Summer, quicky fading into the past leaves only a trail of sticky and balmy days. The anticipation of making new friends and re-kindling the sparks of those from the previous school year leaves me speechless. Am I ready for an abundance of homework – those every day spiritual highs-and-lows – and the opportunity for individual growth is nothing short of a miracle…

Welcome Home!

Well, I’m back at Belmont! I have been for the past week and a half and I am having the time of my life. I have to admit, at first I was a little apprehensive about returning to school, but now that I’m getting into the swing of things I’m falling in love all over again with the school. It’s so weird to come back as a sophmore instead of as a freshman. I’m coming in with eyes that aren’t widening at every aspect of campus (though I did gape in awe as I saw how many new freshmen there are) and I feel like I know everything about the school already. I also already have my group of friends, and so, I’m not coming in with the same fear about being able to make friends as I did freshman year.

Movin’ On Up

“Movin’ On Up” is my personal theme for this year, it’s kinda like the song from the 70′s sitcom “The Jefferson’s.” I say this because of many reasons which include me becoming a junior, moving into a new apartment, and just a different outlook on life. I feel like becoming a junior is very important, especially in college, because this is time when I am finally starting to actually settle down and start thinking about life after school. Things such as upper-level classes that directly relate to my major, which is Entrepreneurship and Marketing, and internships will help shape my interests as far as a possible career.

Almost Back!!

In just a week, I’ll be moved back on campus!! Ahh! I can’t believe it! Strange how it feels like I just moved out a week ago but at the same time, I feel like this summer has lasted forever! From my adventures at Miss TN to just hanging out with friends back home, I feel like this may have been one of my most eventful summers to date.

Reunited… and it Feels So Good

OK, so maybe I’m not reunited with any of my Belmont buddies yet (Although my friend Molly and her boyfriend Patrick might be visiting this week!), but I’m definitely getting close! Because I’m an SLA (Spiritual Life Assistant), I get to return to campus on August 12th– a week ahead of everybody and I’m so excited about it! I get to go through SLA training with a lot of awesome people and a lot of cool friends. I’m also really excited about Welcome Week and helping the freshman get all set for their first day on campus! It seems like just yesterday I was going through the same thing. Gosh, the year, and the summer, have flown by! Now I feel like a veteran at the college thing– I’ve got the hang of it and I’m ready to return. Yes, I’m even ready for classes to start again.

I am speechless. I just finished the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines. A quote from this phenomenal piece of fiction stated that “all we are…all of us on this earth, [are] a piece of drifting wood, until we – each one of us, individually – decide to become something else…”
