Big Band Blues - Irish Ballads - And the Art of Wing-Walking

Okay…how can this already be the end of June? I’m quite perplexed at how extremely fast summer vacation is flying by. Lately, the days blend into one another as I now have become adjusted to a normal routine. I wake up, eat breakfast, work out, attend class, intern from 2-6, and then return back to the Commons. On most nights, I frequently take a bike ride down 16th Avenue and up 18th. It’s definitely an intense journey; But nonetheless, I somehow battle through another heart-pounding adventure.
Every Monday night, I attend a four-hour Third-Year Writing english class. The class is most definitely rock-awesome. My professor, Vicki Doner, encourages the class to make words come to life as if they were music. She believes in wing-walking and stretching the boundaries of vocabulary. Why not make up your own words once in a while? It’s more fun that way. Last week, we listened to big band blues and irish ballads. Along with the accompaniment of Marc Cohn’s haunting rendition of the smash-hit, “Walking in Memphis.” In all honesty, I truly look forward to this class as it is fun. Believe it or not. Four hours sounds like a really long, drawn out time – but in the end – it’s all worth it!
Lately, I have kind of been missing my friends. It is sometimes difficult when there is hardly anyone here on campus. However, I tend to find ways to keep myself occupied. Whether it be through days spent on discovering life through my digital Sony cybershot camera or getting ice cream with a friend. Altogether, summer has been somewhat relaxing, quite adventurous, and without a doubt…extremely busy! As for now, I have to get going as I still need to shower and head to class! Have a Happy Fourth!!!
