Belmont Idol!

After six seasons of American Idol, one of Belmont’s own is finally being represented. As many of you all might know, Melinda Doolittle is a Belmont graduate! She was a Music major here and she graduated in 1999. From the start of the season, she has been recognized as being one of the greatest talents to ever step on the Idol stage. Melinda, a self-proclaimed back up singer, has clearly risen to the challenge and can easily shine in center stage.Melinda Doolittle If you don’t believe me, just watch her sing once. You will be blown away. She, in my opinion, could easily win the whole competition! So everyone should vote for her after every performance!
Another Belmont Alum is doing very exciting things right now. Rachel Smith, who recently graduated in December of 2006, is the reigning Miss Tennessee and will be competing in the Miss USA pageant tonight! Miss USA will aire live from Los Angeles on NBC @ 8:00 pm CT. Good luck Rachel!!

You gotta love it!

curb.jpgIt’s kind of crazy all the stuff that’s been going on around campus lately. Well, of course were still buzzing and proud of our men’s and women’s basketball teams a week ago, but there is just tons of “other” things going on as well. For one, there is the Other Showcase this weekend, which is the last showcase before the “Best-of the-Best” showcase. The showcases are always produced and performed very well by the music business majors. If you take a good look at the picture, the band is “Soul Force” and they were the winners of last years’ Other Showcase. But look really close and there is none other than Melinda Doolittle, a front-runner contestant on American Idol. She was here performing just a couple years ago, now on her way to maybe becoming the next big star from Belmont.

So little time and so much to do!

Oh college. Sitting up here (in my lofted bed) contemplating the fact that there are about six weeks left in my freshman year of college is insane! And a bit overwhelming, being that I have two 15 page papers due that I still need to do a considerable amount of work on, at least 3 more smaller papers, and a presentation or two, all in the course of that time. Don’t get me wrong, I love my classes this semester.

Those Chic Greek’s!

PhiKTau Formal.jpg Last weekend I attended the annual Phi Kappa Tau (For more about Greek Life at Belmont Click here) Founder’s Day Formal, which was pretty much awesome. I wasn’t even expecting to go when my friend Alex called me up and asked if I would be his date. We had a great time dancing the night away with a lot of our friends as well as getting our munch on and celebrating PKT’s Founder’s Day.

Family…

family.jpgSo far, today has been quite relaxing! The gloomy skyline of Music City USA has encouraged me to make the best out of an ordinary Saturday! I decided to grab a quick lunch in the cafeteria this past afternoon, and for some reason, motivated myself to maintain a healthy lifestyle by working out in the fitness center! After I completed my work out, I returned to my room to begin some homework.
I cannot believe that Spring Break has already come and gone! Without a doubt, this “back-to-school” week has definitely been one of the longest weeks ever! However, it has been quite a blast playing frisbee with my friends on these slightly brisk Nashville evenings! In terms of my friends, they are definitely like family to me! Ever since August, I have been extremely blessed by the Lord to have such a supportive group of rock-awesome friends! And last but not least, I could not be happier ever since I have moved down here to Nashville! This place rocks and I am definitely here to stay!

Spring Breakin’ It!

Hey friends!
Last thursday (March 1) I was able to attend the Country Radio Seminar! It was a lot of fun to meet and greet with some of the biggest songwriters in Nashville. Artists such as Jack Ingram and Danielle Peck from Big Machine Records were there as well. There were a lot of performances going on that night, and among these performers were Taylor Swift, Jeffrey Steel, and Megan Mullins, to name a few. Jeffrey Steele is absolutely AMAZING! He is the biggest songwriter in Nashville! Not only has he written some of the biggest hits this year (does “What Hurts the Most” ring a bell?), his performance skills are equally amazing. He can play guitar, piano, he has an amazing voice, and he’s an extremely talented songwriter. Megan Mullins from Broken Bow Records is also a great up-and-coming country artist. That girl can SING! She’s so much fun to watch while she’s singing. She started off by singing while playing the guitar, then she proceeded to put her guitar down and walk over to pick up her fiddle. I was really impressed! Taylor was also very entertaining as usual. She played two of my favorite songs : “Our Song” and “Stay Beautiful”. If ya’ll haven’t bought her CD yet, you should! I highly recommend it!

Belmont is Ballin’!!!!

champs.jpg
Okay, so March Madness is here and just take a guess who’s going dancing? Yep, you already know, two years in a row we’re in the Big Dance, or NCAA Tournament (just in case you don’t keep up). The guys’ team is riding a 7 game win streak into the tournament, so the momentum will hopefully help us out playing a power school in a week or two. I can’t really think of a school right off the top of my head to get a tourney bid around here, wait maybe Vandy this year beating Florida, Memphis is always pretty good but choke sometimes, and the Bisons sorry not quite. But anyways back to Belmont, the guys are getting some good buzz around town with being on ESPN2 for the championship game and one of the players Justin Hare being recognized as a Academic second team All-American. On top of that Belmont has won the Academic Athletic Trophy for five straight years, possibly six with the highest GPA per student-athlete in the A-Sun conference.

Don’t Let Spring Break!

So last week closed with joyful exclamation as students from all over the nation rushed to escape the confines of school for a week. What is this rumbling ruckus? This ecstatic expedition? Why, it’s Spring Break of course! And isn’t ironic the number of Belmont students I talked to and asked where they were going for Spring Break and how many of them responded, “I’m going to such and such a place, Florida.” And I, the Florida resident, would then mention somewhat begrudgingly that I was not going home to Florida for Spring Break, rather I was going to the state of Georgia, to a tiny city to gain rest, rejuvenation, and respite from all that is school related (Smart idea then, bringing homework!).

Lazy Sunday…

meandspeedy.jpg
I cannot believe that it is Spring Break already! That is just unbelievable. Today is going to a relaxing, yet fun day! I flew out of Nashville early yesterday morning, and fortunately, arrived to the central Wisconsin airport on time! I will miss the sunny 60 degree weather, compared to the 20 degree weather that I will be encompassed by throughout the entire week. Today, my mom is going to make a small brunch, and later on this evening, I believe that we are going to visit my grandpa and grandma! It will be so fun to see them!
